Transforming Spaces: A Multi-Purpose Home Renovation with Style and
Functionality
Reimagine:
A young family was looking to maximize the usability and value of their home through a
ground floor bathroom remodel. With a third child on the way, they wanted a dedicated space for
visiting, elderly family members that would double as an office space when not in use by visitors.
Redesign:
We discussed the value-add of redesigning their formal sitting room and adjacent powder
room to a dual-purpose room with legitimate parameters of a bedroom. With ROI now at the forefront,
we assessed plumbing, HVAC and electrical in this early 1900’s Chevy Chase colonial and designed a legal
bedroom with an en-suite bathroom, complete with a curbless shower with their elderly visitors in mind.
We worked hand in hand with their interior designer to create a functional yet beautiful space that was
nothing short of a nod to the home’s withstanding aesthetic.
Redefine:
The clients now have a room that is a daily sitting room that transitions to a private bedroom
for visitors. Their small powder room and small coat closet were combined to create a jack and jill style
bathroom that allowed it to remain as the only bathroom on the ground floor and also the private
bathroom for visitors during their stay.
